Position Summary
The Claims Examiner is responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and processing financial claims submitted to the Georgia Department of Revenue. This role ensures accuracy, compliance with state tax laws and agency regulations, and timely resolution of claims. The Claims Examiner interacts with taxpayers, employers, and internal staff to gather information, verify documentation, and provide clear guidance regarding claim determinations.
Key Responsibilities
Review, analyze, and process assigned claims to determine eligibility, accuracy, and compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
Verify supporting documentation, employment records, payment history, and tax-related information to validate claim accuracy.
Identify discrepancies, potential fraud indicators, or incomplete submissions and take appropriate corrective actions.
Prepare and issue claim determinations, adjustments, or denials in accordance with established guidelines.
Maintain detailed records and documentation for each claim, ensuring tracking and audit readiness.
Communicate with claimants, employers, taxpayers, and agency partners to request additional information or clarify requirements.
Provide clear explanations of claim decisions and assist taxpayers with understanding processes, deadlines, and documentation needs.
Ensure all work meets accuracy, timeliness, and quality standards established by the Department.
Escalate complex or sensitive cases to senior staff or supervisors when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and at least 1–3 years of experience in claims processing, financial review, compliance, customer service, or a closely related field.
Experience handling confidential information with a high level of professionalism.
Strong proficiency with computers, data-entry systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a tax, financial, auditing, or government agency environment.
Knowledge of state tax regulations, financial documentation, or claims review procedures.
Demonstrated ability to interpret policies, laws, and regulations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
