Through strong partnerships with local restaurants and community-based organizations, we work with a responsive, hyperlocal network that provides culturally celebrated, nutritious meals. Since 2017, we've served over 30 million meals and reinvested more than $142 million into local economies.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Facilities Team Member is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the community kitchen and surrounding facilities. This role involves performing a variety of tasks related to building maintenance, sanitation, and supporting culinary operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Clean and maintain all shared spaces within the kitchen, dining room, office, storage spaces, and bathrooms following standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Perform routine porter tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and taking out trash and recycling.
  • Follow all Department of Health (DOH) and commissary kitchen guidelines for sanitation and food safety.
  • Assist with kitchen operations as directed by the Chef or Sous Chef, which may include tasks such as collecting ingredients and supplies, and maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Help manage and organize inventory of non-food items and supplies.
  • Communicate promptly with the Chef or Sous Chef if any problems arise with facilities or equipment.
  • Responsibly handle all facilities equipment, including appliances, cooking equipment, and the freight elevator, following proper protocols.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team and other staff members to ensure a smooth and respectful working environment.
  • Participate in content capture to amplify the work of the Sustainable Community Kitchen.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements :

  • NYC Food Handlers Certification and ServSafe, or obtain within the first 30 days of employment
  • Minimum 2 year experience in medium to high volume kitchen required
  • Professional, reliable, enthusiastic
  • Catering and event experience a plus
  • Have a good attitude and willing to take instructions and work well with others
  • The ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, high pressured environment
  • Self motivated individual who takes initiative, and is always looking to grow and learn
  • Able to work independently 
  • Must embrace the mission and core values of Rethink Food. 
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stretch, and lift, and carry heavy materials up to 50lbs

COMPENSATION

The annual salary range for this position is $20.00 per hour. We also offer a complete benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, PTO, paid holidays, two weeks per year for an organization-wide office closure to recharge, a retirement plan with employer match, free nutritious lunch daily, and a progressive parental leave plan.
