Middle School MTSS Literacy Interventionist (25-26 SY)

The MTSS Literacy Interventionist role is an integral part of the KIPP DC team, teaching and progress monitoring students that require reading intervention. This is a full-time, on-site role based at KIPP DC AIM Academy with an anticipated start date of July 21st 2025.

About the role:
The MTSS Literacy Interventionist provides instruction and support in meeting the tiered needs of students in the areas of behavioral development, academic development for students with gaps in their learning, attendance, and overall student well-being.

Key Requirements & Responsibilities:

• Teaching (70%):  
  • Instruct small groups of students in reading  in six to eight  week acceleration cycles, to include an average minimum of four literacy groups daily 
  • Analyze student data to design instructional action plans
  • Monitor progress of instruction action plans with assessments, daily instructional notes and weekly summary reports
  • Uses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their skills to grade-level
  • Uses identified research-based interventions focused specifically on individual student needs  
  • Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress 
  • Provides data to school teams and participates in decisions about student progress 
  • Communicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress 
  • Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups 
  • Participates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress
  • Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed
• MTSS Coordination (30%)
  • Prepare and Leads Tier 3 meetings with teachers and leaders to analyze data, review and write student support plans, and provide development in other areas as needed. 
  • Collaborates and attends meetings with  Student Support Team, Attendance Team, and Academic Team leaders to improve student outcomes.
  • Work with the leadership team to ensure that the school uses an equity based mindset when designing and implementing interventions.
  • Communicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress 
  • Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups 
  • Participates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress
  • Complete necessary paperwork for referral, including analyzing existing data and participate in special education meetings if needed.
  • Manage DIBELS Progress monitor cycles every 2 weeks and report it to the leadership team of the school. 
• Other Information & Requirements
  • The percentages for each key responsibility are estimates. Flexibility and responsiveness are encouraged to accommodate organizational needs.
  • While students receive instruction from 8:00 am-3:30 pm, KIPP DC teachers are on duty in school Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm two times a week, and 7:30 am to 4:00 pm three times a week.
  • Perform clerical duties, as required, relating to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.
  • Perform morning, lunch, and afternoon duties as assigned.
  • Pass all required background check requirements under the School Safety Omnibus Amendment Act of 2018.
  • Additional responsibilities may arise during the school year. This could include, but not limited to: attending staff and student field trips, open houses, family-teacher conferences, and other events involving parents and students as needed. We will communicate them to all employees with as much notice and flexibility as possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required
• At least 3 years of teaching experience in reading
• Knowledge of federal and state laws related to special education, 504, and the MTSS process.
• Ability to build relationships, impact & influence, and motivate action.
• Systems-orientation and thinking -- someone who can build from scratch and bring a vision to life
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families from diverse cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds.

Compensation & Benefits:

• When it comes to compensation, at KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. We look at compensation benchmarks in schools across DC. Teacher salaries are exempt and start at $65,500 and increase with years of experience. Please see the salary scale here . Teachers can earn up to $5,000 in renewal add-ons to their base salary each year they return to KIPP DC.

• KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
