Job Description

Lead. Scale. Shape the Future of a Growing Environmental Services Firm.

If you’re an experienced environmental or engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy, operations, and people, this is an opportunity to step into a true General Manager role with full P&L ownership, the ability to scale a growing platform, and a clear path to long-term value creation.

This role is designed for a leader who wants more than stewardship. You’ll be empowered to run the business, integrate acquisitions, build strong teams, and turn strategy into execution while ownership focuses on M&A, client relationships, and long-term growth.

In short: if you enjoy building something meaningful, leading talented professionals, and creating measurable impact in the environmental space, this role was built with you in mind.

About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established and highly respected environmental consulting, contracting, and engineering firm serving clients where environmental compliance, remediation, and strategic land and facility use are mission-critical. The organization is growing through both organic expansion and acquisitions and is seeking a General Manager to help take the business to its next phase.

What You’ll Do

As General Manager, you will oversee day-to-day operations while executing the firm’s strategic plan and scaling the organization.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Full P&L ownership across consulting and contracting business lines

  • Overseeing operations, project delivery, and post-acquisition integration

  • Driving growth through collaboration with Seller-Doers and regional leaders

  • Leading and tracking KPIs for revenue, margin, utilization, client retention, and safety

  • Implementing standardized SOPs, systems, technology platforms, and shared services

  • Overseeing HR, recruitment, performance management, and leadership development

  • Serving as a cultural integrator, reinforcing communication, accountability, and values

  • Acting as a strategic operator with a hands-on, people-first leadership style

  • Regional travel up to 25%

What Success Looks Like

  • A well-run, scalable operation with strong margins and consistent execution

  • Engaged teams who feel supported, challenged, and developed

  • Smooth integration of acquired firms into a cohesive platform

  • Clear visibility into performance metrics and financial outcomes

  • A culture rooted in service, commitment, teamwork, and safety

Core Values You’ll Champion

  • Service: A client-first mindset, acting as a trusted advocate and guide

  • Commitment: A “can-do” approach—responsive, agile, and tenacious

  • Teamwork: Collaborative leadership where shared wins matter

  • Safety: A deep commitment to employee well-being, respect, and responsibility

What You Bring

  • BS/MS in Engineering (PE required)

  • MBA preferred

  • 10+ years of experience in professional services, ideally environmental or engineering consulting/contracting

  • Proven success scaling multi-office or multi-service organizations

  • Experience with acquisitions and post-merger integration

  • Strong financial acumen and a track record of profitable growth

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop both technical and administrative teams

  • Familiarity with environmental consulting, remediation, or related services

  • Established network in the Midwest market preferred

Compensation & Growth Opportunity

  • Total compensation: $150,000–$175,000 (base salary + performance incentives)

  • This role is designed for growth. As the firm’s value, profitability, and scale increase, the successful candidate will be eligible for future equity participation.
