JOB DESCRIPTION: Assistant Engineer
Blue World is looking for an individual with one to five years' experience to join our team as an Assistant Engineer to start as soon as possible, in our Houston, Texas office. The position will be responsible for providing engineering support, CAD tasks involving shop drawings, detailed mechanical drawings and take-offs and estimating to our project teams in TX as well as NJ and AZ. Travel to these offices or job sites may be required.

The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience applicable to the types of projects we work on.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Position is based out of Houston, TX, and will support projects in Texas and the Southwest Region. From time-to-time support to our other offices in NJ and AZ will be required. Travel may be required. Work in the office or onsite with field staff is required 5 days per week. This is not a flexible/work from home position because of the importance of interaction with the senior team members as well as field teams. Some field work will be required.
• Must be proficient with AutoCAD and be able to develop or modify civil drawings, mechanical drawings, PFDs and P&IDs and even electrical schematics with little guidance or supervision. The ability to actually ‘engineer' details and drawings and think the process through is a key factor in the ability to successfully work in this position, rather than an individual that just ‘draws.'
• Valid driver's license – required and in good standing.
• Willingness to be in the field and apply “hands on” learning experience from previous employment and ability to learn new skills.
• Must provide references verifying prior experience, as applicable.

Candidate must have the desire to grow and develop into a great field engineer and project management candidate with our firm.

• Position requires strong aptitude with AutoCAD in 2D and also ability to use 3D versions.
• Position requires very motivated individual that is not afraid to do field work and learn with their hands rather than watching/oversight.
• Position requires entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic as well as very good communication/listening skills and teamwork.
• Position requires field time and office time.
• Will work directly for Senior team members in TX as well as NJ and AZ when in the office to provide CAD/shop drawing/engineering drawing support on projects and estimating,
• Excellent writing skills are necessary for this position. Technical writing samples must be provided during the interview process for assessment.
• Other responsibilities include preparation of submittals, schedules, project bids, project estimates, daily logs, procurement, subcontractor management, support to project superintendents.
• Goal for this position is grow into a solid project managerial role that is both technically competent and understands the trials/tribulations of construction/field work.
• Travel is required within the US.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Required bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably civil or mechanical; an associates in mechanical design/CAD will be considered as well
• Entry level or up to 2-3 years of experience in civil or mechanical engineering or construction field will be considered.
• Candidate must be able to show proficiency using AutoCAD.

TYPICAL HOURS/ SCHEDULE:  Office schedule 8am – 5pm, Monday thru Friday; Field schedule 7am – 4pm, Monday thru Friday

PAY: competitive salary commensurate with applicable experience
